The ceremony was presided over by the Director of General Affairs of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education representing the Sports and Physical Education Boss on the 10th of October 2019 in the conference hall of MINSEP
The Conference of Francophone Ministers of Youth and Sports (CONFEJES) has made it a routine to financially support African youth elite athletes who excel in their various sporting disciplines. This Youth Elite support Program in its French acronym APEJ was instituted in 1990 with the intention of encouraging sports excellence amongst Youths.
Present during the handing over ceremony of the 2nd quota of the CONFEJES Youth elite support fund were the officials of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, the Head of the National CONFEJES Unit in Cameroon and the meritorious athletes. Drawn from seven different sporting federations, with their ages ranging from 14 to 18 years, the twenty meritorious athletes received the sum of 100.000 FCFA each for this second phase of the program making a total sum of 2.000.000 FCFA. 04 athletes has been drawn from Athletics, 03 in Boxing, 02 in Gymnastics, 04 from the Judo discipline, 04 in wrestling, and 02 for Adapted sports and 01 in Table Tennis.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, the Director of General Affairs, Mr. MUSA BOUBA saluted the athletes and edged them to judiciously us the support fund put at their disposal by CONFEJES to facilitate their access to the training grounds, buy their training materials, have a good medical follow-up, and a good nutritional program for themselves. He also thank the Conference of Francophone of Youth and Sports Ministers for the constant support they have often given to Cameroonian athletes as a whole. The representative of the Minister indicated to the youth elite athletes that their performance in the recent Youth African Games in Algeria was an encouragement for the nation to count on them. “The Head of State, His Excellency Paul BIYA and the entire nation is counting on you are because you are the future of the Cameroon national sports movement”. Mr. MUSA BOUBA reiterated.
